This is not a search for films “about architecture.” It is a way to watch how films think with space. Buildings are not just backdrops here; they are actors that produce behaviour, class, memory, technology and care.
Method
This is not a universal ranking of the best 25 films. The five blocks move between the modern city, home and interior, future worlds, design practice and urban politics. Fiction and documentary are placed in conversation without pretending they do the same work; the selection foregrounds the question each one opens for an architecture student.
Ratings remain separate signals: IMDb user score and vote count; Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and critic count; and, where available, Metacritic score and critic count. IMDb values use the official IMDb non-commercial dataset snapshot from 16 August 2026; Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic remain a separate 15 August 2026 source snapshot. No cross-source average is calculated.

A viewing note
Open a film not to find the “correct” architectural example, but to test your own instrument for reading space. Re-reading one scene as plan, section, circulation, light, maintenance and power can tell you more than a single star score.
